Karen Bevans wins defamation judgment against Prime Minister and Love FM

By Aaron Humes: Supreme Court Justice Westmin James has ruled that former Director of Tourism, Karen Bevans, was defamed by Prime Minister John Briceño on a media morning program on Love FM last November.

Bevans was awarded 90 thousand dollars, among the largest judgments in Belizean history for libel. 60 thousand of this is compensatory damages and 30 thousand aggravated damages.

The Prime Minister on the program, during an interview, had questioned openly the provenance of her five-year contract, which had only recently been renewed.
