Post mortem examination will determine if Mercedez Pais AKA “Kukulick” killed his mother in law

By BBN Staff: Fifty-nine-year-old Mercedez Pais AKA “Kukulick” has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison on charges of grievous harm, with more serious charges pending according to police.

Pais made national headlines last week after he recorded a statement saying that he intended to kill his common-law wife, 27-year-old Roxana Garcia. Paiz would later attack Garcia, her sister, 20-year-old Emerita Flores, and their mother, 64-year-old Angela Flores Rodriguez, with a steel pipe, with Angela Flores dying from her injuries while receiving treatment.

Police say that they are awaiting her post mortem results to submit to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for advice on how he should be charged.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Joseph Myvett said, “There is some information that suggests the deceased fell from the step(of her house), and we cannot say at this point in time that was as a consequence of the beating if you may say, hence the reason we have to await the results of the post mortem to see what the cause of the death would be before those charges are upgraded if they will be.”

Myvett also stressed today that contrary to reports being circulated, police were not aware that Pais had made the threats over social media.

“The first time he came to the station was on Sunday morning when one of the complainants visited the station to say that she had a protection order against Mr. Pais,” Myvett said.

Myvett said that Pais arrived shortly after claiming to have no knowledge of the order, so an officer at the station printed it out for him and explained to him what it meant.

Myvett stressed that no other complaints were made regarding Pais after that until he turned himself in having injured the three women. Myvett also noted that no one knows when the confession recording was made, as it only began circulating over the past weekend after the incident had unfolded.
