Prime Minister commends teachers for getting vaccinated, says schools could be open for face-to-face learning next month

By BBN Staff: Today, Prime Minister John Briceño commended teachers all across Belize for getting vaccinated against COVID-19.

Briceno, appearing on the Open Your Eyes morning talkshow, noted that schools reopen today under a distanced learning format, but that face-to-face classes will be made easier, the more teachers get vaccinated.

“We have to commend the teachers and the BNTU (Belize National Teachers Union). The president, she has been pushing teachers to get vaccinated and they have been responding well,” Briceño said. “I think we’re probably almost at 90 percent of the teachers vaccinated which is amazing and we need to thank our teachers for this.”

He went on to say that government is now confident that schools will be able to return to full face-to-face instruction by October 4; however, Briceño also stressed that protocols such as mask-wearing must be looked at as the “new normal” to ensure that students are safe from the virus when they head back into their classrooms.
