By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) congratulated the Government and People of Trinidad and Tobago as the Caribbean nation celebrates the 59th anniversary of the country’s Independence on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, according to a CARICOM statement.
“It is my pleasure, on behalf of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and on my own behalf, to extend congratulations to the Government and People of Trinidad and Tobago on the occasion of the country’s Fifty-Ninth Anniversary of Independence,” said CARICOM Secretary-General Dr. Carla Barnett in a letter to Trinidad and Tobago’s Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley.
She said that the CARICOM applauded the commitment of the Government and People of Trinidad and Tobago to regional integration and noted that T&T continues leading the process of integration.
“Over the Fifty-nine years of nationhood, Trinidad and Tobago has achieved a considerable level of socio-economic advancement including the many achievements of its creative people, who continue to excel at home and abroad in many fields including academia, the arts, diplomacy, and sport,” added Dr. Barnett.
The Secretary-General reiterated her commitment and that of the staff of the CARICOM Secretariat to work with Prime Minister Rowley and his Government to realize Trinidad and Tobago’s aspirations.
