By Benjamin Flowers: Belizeans hoping to have some semblance of September celebrations this year will have to ensure that they are home by 9:00 p.m. as the Government of Belize has extended the curfew implemented as part of the COVID-19 prevention regulations.
Today, the Public Health (Prevention of the Spread of Infectious Disease) (COVID-19)(NO.7) Regulations 2021 was signed by Minister of Health Michel Chebat. Section (1) of the amendment extends the 9:00 p.m. – 4:00 a.m. curfew, which came to an end with the last SI on August 31, from September 1-30.
Currently, Belize has more than 1,100 active cases of COVID-19 and saw more than 10 new deaths related to the virus in the month of August. Medical professionals have called the current situation a “third wave” of COVID-cases for Belize, noting that the more severe Delta Variant of the virus has been detected in the country.
