Restaurant workers get one-hour grace period after curfew

Posted: Wednesday, September 1, 2021. 3:19 pm CST.

By Benjamin Flowers: Today, the Government of Belize announced that the curfew implemented to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19 will be extended throughout the month of September; however restaurant workers will be given special considerations.

GOB’s latest update to the COVID-19 regulations Statutory Instrument No. 96 of 2021, says that the curfew will run from 9:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. from Sunday to Saturday.

“The ministry also informs that employers and staff of restaurants will be allowed one extra hour after curfew to reach their respective destinations safely,” the Ministry of Health and Wellness explained.

The curfew was implemented following a surge of COVID-19 cases countrywide last month. Notably, the Belize District, particularly Belize City, has been the site for the greatest number of newly-confirmed COVID-19 cases in recent weeks.

As of August 31, Belize had 1,108 active COVID-19 infections, with another 339 suspected cases under investigation.
