BTL Chairman: ‘Outbreak of COVID cases will not affect service delivery

Posted: Thursday, September 2, 2021. 4:07 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Chairman of the Board of Belize Telemedia Limited, Mark Lizarraga, confirmed today that there has been an outbreak of COVID-19 detected among the company’s staff, but that customers can rest assured service will not be affected.

Lizarraga explained that the company has a staff of over 500 people, and acknowledged that, with the current surge in cases, particularly in Belize City, it was inevitable that members of BTL staff would eventually contract the virus. He went on to say that, since positive cases among staff was inevitable, the company did its best to put stringent policies and protocols in place to address possible infection at the workplace.

“But we can’t control what happens when people go home or when they are out on the street when their guard is down, especially in their homes,” Lizarraga said.

He went on to say that around 97 percent of BTL’s staff has received one vaccination dose, with a large percentage of the total staff being fully vaccinated received two shots.

BTL continues to insist that all staff follow the procedures in place, and ensures that customers at their various locations are abiding by the COVID-19 prevention protocols established by health authorities.

Earlier today we reported that nine staff members from BTL had tested positive for COVID-19 and that contact tracing activities were already underway.
