Government of Belize hosts special forum on mental health

By Benjamin Flowers: Today, the Government of Belize is hosting a special online forum dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of mental health.

The forum, which is done via Facebook live, kicked off at 9:00 a.m., facilitated by the Ministry of Rural Transformation, community Development, Labour, and Local Government. The event gathers a wide cross-section of professionals to speak on a variety of topics pertaining to mental health.

Speakers include Dr. Annel Martinez, Psychiatrist; Aimee Jex, Professional Counselor; Dean Flowers, President of the Public Service Union; Sharon Frazer, Chief Magistrate; Nikkita Usher Past President Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry; and Martine King, Mental Health Therapist. The event also features live entertainment by artist Jackie Castillo.

The forum comes ahead of the 2021 celebration of World Suicide Prevention Day, which is being observed on Friday, September 10.
