Larry to become major hurricane by Friday night

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The United States National Hurricane Center (NHC) said at 9 am on Thursday that Hurricane Larry has the potential to become a major hurricane by Friday night.

“Larry is larger and a bit stronger … steady to rapid intensification likely in the coming days, and Larry is expected to become a major hurricane by Friday night,” said the NHC.

Larry is located at latitude 13.5 North and longitude 34.2 West about 660 miles west of the Cabo Verde islands in the Atlantic Ocean.

It is packing maximum sustained winds of 80 miles per hour and moving West at 17 miles per hour.

The NHC said hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 15 miles from the Center and tropical-storm-force winds are expanding and now extend outward up to 160 miles.
