By Rubén Morales Iglesias: In this month of National Celebrations, Taiwan’s Foreign Affairs Minister Joseph Wu on Thursday congratulated Belize on its 40th anniversary of independence, according to Focus Taiwan.
At the same time, Minister Wu thanked Belize for the support it has given Taiwan in the international community for many years.
Wu spoke from Taipei with Belize Prime Minister John Briceño on a video call.
Wu congratulated Belize on behalf of President Tsai Ing-wen and the people of Taiwan on the 40th anniversary of Belize’s independence from the United Kingdom promisin Taiwan will continue working with Belize in strengthening the bilateral partnership.
For his part, PM Briceño thanked the Taiwanese government for the good wishes and for its assistance in fighting against COVID-19 and for helping Belize build its infrastructure.
Wu referred to Belize as one of Taiwan important diplomatic allies in the Caribbean region and invited Prime Minister Briceño to visit Taiwan when the COVID-19 pandemic subsides.
Wu further promised that Taiwan will keep assisting Belize in its fight against COVID-19. Taiwan will also keep working with Belize to revive its economy and accelerate its national development.
Wu said he hoped Prime Minister Briceño keeps supporting Taiwan internationally.
Briceño said his government will keep working to boost the close cooperation with Taiwan and maintain solid bilateral diplomatic ties.
