Tourism Board launches Innovation Challenge for new business

Posted: Thursday, September 2, 2021. 9:32 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: Belizean students and recent graduates from tourism management and business classes can land 10 thousand dollars from the Belize Tourism Board (BTB) for the next big thing in the industry.

The Board (BTB) has launched its business innovation challenge under the theme: INNOVATION CHALLENGE: TRANSFORMING TOURISM FOR THE FUTURE.

The objective of this event is to provide a financial opportunity to local academia to pitch a viable innovative business plan for a product or service that will create significant returns for Belize’s tourism industry.

Teams submitting bids should be comprised of two to five members with support and guidance from a mentor whether it is a lecturer, industry professional or existing business.

Expressions of Interest should be sent to the BTB’s Industry Development Department via the following link: https://datalink.belizetourismboard.org:8443/TourismStartUpCompetition/BusinessProfile/

A Business Plan should then be submitted during a two-week period from September 29 to October 13, 2021. Business Plans will be reviewed by a panel of expert industry professionals who will ultimately select the winner. The judging criteria will be shared at a later date prior to the business plan submissions.

The winner of the best innovative business model will receive a grand prize of $10,000 to start up their new business venture.
