138 New Cases of COVID-19; 32 active hospitalizations including 6 In ICU

By Benjamin Flowers: Belize has seen another 138 newly-confirmed COVID-19 infections.

The latest daily report from the Ministry of Health and Wellness shows that the new cases were detected from a sample batch of 2,161 tests.

New cases were split between 55 females and 83 males.

The country’s national total for infections has reached 16,750, while the daily positivity rate stood at 7.71.

For the first time in weeks, Belize City was not the primary contributor to the high number of cases being reported. The Cayo district had the highest number of cases accounting for 61 of the day’s total.

Notably, the Belize District had 53 reported cases, with Belize City accounting for 36 of those cases beating out Armenia Village, which had the highest number of cases in Cayo, accounting for 8 of the 61.

Hospitalizations due to the virus continue to climb, with 32 patients receiving care in standard COVID-19 units across the country, and six patients receiving critical care in an intensive care unit (ICU).
