By Aaron Humes: Speaker of the House of Representatives Valerie Woods has announced plans by the National Assembly to mark 40 years of Independence.
By the joint initiative of both Chambers, there will be artwork installed in front of the Assembly.
For the first time, the official papers from the discussion in 1981 and Belize’s Independence will be made available as they were gifted to President of the Senate, Carolyn Trench-Sandiford, from late National Hero Philip Goldson.
In other parliamentary news, the first Code of Conduct of Parliamentarians is close to completion, needing only the approval of the Constitution and Foreign Affairs Committee before it goes to the whole House of Representatives.
Work also continues on revising the ancient Standing Orders of the House, also under the aegis of the Constitution and Foreign Affairs Committee.
