By Aaron Humes: Merdaldo Eledio Allen, 74, a retiree of Antelope Street Extension has reported to police that around 1:45 a.m. this morning, he was asleep when he was woken up by the sound of his dogs barking.

When he looked through one of his windows, he noticed that the hood of his red 1993 Toyota Corolla parked inside of his yard was on fire. He then quickly extinguished the blaze before it managed to cause any significant damage to the vehicle and called for Police assistance.

Police investigators visited the scene and observed a piece of sponge on the hood of the vehicle soaked with what appeared to be kerosene. An empty transparent gallon bottle with the strong aroma of kerosene was also found in the yard directly in front of the car.

This would suggest apparent arson but police investigations continue.
