By Aaron Humes: A long-standing offer to the Opposition United Democratic Party to be represented on the National Medical COVID-19 Response Team was briefly debated at Friday’s meeting of the House of Representatives.
Responding to a question from Moses ‘Shyne’ Barrow, Leader of the Opposition and area representative for Mesopotamia, Prime Minister John Briceno said he hadn’t heard back from Barrow’s predecessor Patrick Faber about joining the ostensible successor to the COVID-19 National Oversight Committee and task force formed in March.
The Chamber of Commerce and Industry is represented by Dr Jorge Hidalgo, a noted medical specialist.
The Committee meets once or twice a month and eschews politics, as the Prime Minister made a point of noting.
As an aside, the PM said any suggestions of glee at the seeming failure to contain COVID-19 should be tempered by the nature of an ‘own goal’ – reckless behaviour, vaccine hesitancy and new contagion.
