Surveillance footage released of Jesse Escobar’s last moments

By BBN Staff: Surveillance footage showing the shooting death of Belize Defense Force (BDF) soldier Jesse Escobar is making rounds over social media and messaging services this morning.

The camera footage from Branch Mouth Stop and Shop, which displays the incident which led to the fatal shooting of Escobar on Sunday night, shows an argument ensuing between a joint police and BDF patrol team and two men, one of which was Escobar. During the argument, the police officer from the joint patrol pulls his weapon and fires a warning shot, but the argument continues.

The footage also shows Escobar, with a cup in one hand and his other hand extended sideways taking a single step slowly towards an on-duty BDf soldier who already had a high caliber weapon at his chest then fires a single shot killing him on the spot.

The incident took place in front of Escobar’s wife and four-year-old daughter, who are later seen crying over his body.

The Belize Police Department is expected to make a statement regarding the issue this morning.
