It’s not over yet; get second dose of COVID-19 vaccine now

By Aaron Humes: The majority of Belizeans since March have been vaccinated against COVID-19 with the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.

However, the vaccine has two doses and the Ministry of Health and Wellness reminds that persons should return to the vaccination site eight weeks after getting the first dose of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine for their second dose. Receiving both the first and second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine provides greater immunity against COVID-19.

Approximately 175 thousand Belizeans have one dose but only about 70 thousand have two.

All of the vaccines in stock apart from the newly arrived Johnson and Johnson vaccines work in two or three doses.

The Ministry also continues to urge persons 18 years and older to get vaccinated and encourages parents to take their children 12 years and older to get vaccinated. Please check local health centers or the Facebook page of the Ministry of Health & Wellness for more information.

All persons are reminded to continue wearing a facemask properly, maintain physical distance, and wash and sanitize hands often.
