UDP Chairman retains Dean Barrow to challenge PM Briceno et al. on Microsoft License contract award to SMART

Posted: Tuesday, September 7, 2021. 8:49 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: Senator Michael Peyrefitte of the United Democratic Party is asking for leave to apply for judicial review for various declarations against the Government’s decision to award one-year service contracts to SMART for Microsoft Office licenses.

He has retained Senior Counsel Dean Barrow as the attorney to argue the claim.

Peyrefitte is asking the court to declare that he can argue for judicial review and declarations that the respondents – the Minister of Finance John Briceno and Financial Secretary Joseph Waight acted unlawfully in awarding the contract of $2.95 million for procuring the licenses; acted in breach of the Finance and Audit Reform Act; made an irrational decision in the circumstances; made a decision in circumstances where there was actual or apparent bias, and thus quash the contracts and their operation.

No interim remedy is sought and the case has yet to be assigned. We’ll keep following it.
