Man, 63, charged with harm, claims self-defense

By BBN Staff: A 63-year-old man from Hattieville is out on bail after being charged with “harm” in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court.

Willie Smith was originally unable to meet bail of $1,000 on Monday but was finally able to do so on Wednesday.

He is charged with harming Edward Duran during an altercation on September 2.

Smith told the court that he was attacked during the altercation, and hit on the head as well as to the body; to which he retaliated to defend himself. However, he was told that he would need to explain himself at the trial since he pleaded not guilty.

Smith is due back in court on November 8.
