By BBN Staff: A man from Paradiso Village who was charged with beating up his cheating girlfriend was set free after the woman dropped the charges in court.
Taylin Collin Requena, 18, was before the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, charged with “harm” with respect to 23-year-old, Shayan Funez.
Requena pleaded guilty in court and explained that on August 28, he came home but could not enter his apartment because someone was stopping the door on the other side. He said when he forced his way in he found Funez inside with another man. He said he initially did not intend to harm her and that he had called the police, who advised her to leave.
Upon hearing he had no intention of harming her, the Magistrate said she would not accept his guilty plea and attempted to enter an equivocal plea of “not guilty” for him when Funez appeared in court to say that she wanted the charges dropped. When asked, she told the court that she was doing so of her own free will and that she was not being threatened.
With that, Requena was allowed to leave.
