By Aaron Humes: Ex-Minister of Works Rene Montero is officially a wanted man – but where is he?
Attorney Orson Elrington has told reporters that his client is away at the moment and intends to return to answer to an unusual charge of “willful oppression” contrary to the Criminal Code for activities between April 2016 and November 2020. He denies wrongdoing.
But Commissioner of Police Chester Williams said to reporters that Elrington has a duty to assist police in bringing in Montero now that he knows police want him, “trumped-up allegations” aside.
Police have so far not been able to locate Montero, a San Ignacio Town resident, themselves but believe he may in fact still be in the country.
Montero has been the subject of a criminal investigation since leaving the office for alleged use of the public property for private and personal gain, a charge he denies.
