To access public transportation including buses after October 1st, vaccination card or recent negative test will be required

Posted: Thursday, September 9, 2021. 6:33 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Earlier today Minister of Health and Wellness, appearing on Channel 5’s Open Your Eyes, said that on October 1st this year, only persons who are vaccinated or can present a recent negative COVID-19 test will be able to enter public buildings. Chebat reiterated that this new measure would also apply to public transportation and will include buses.

For those who are not vaccinated, public buildings and spaces, including public transportation can still be accessed but a recent negative COVID-19 test will have to be presented. This can be done by presenting the results of a PCR test done within 96 hours, or a rapid test done within 48 hours.

Chebat noted that the new measure would be implemented across the country and is being modeled of similar programs being implemented in the Caribbean, particularly Jamaica and Guyana, and some states in the USA. It is his belief, Chebat said, that the implementation of these new measure is going to be a worldwide trend.

The public buildings were clarified to include not only government buildings but also privately owned buildings. “It would include any building where the public has lawful access to, including schools,” Chebat said.

Reaction to the announcement of these new measure has been mixed. Those hesitant to take the vaccine are condemning this latest move by Government, while others, including the Leader of the Opposition, Shyne Barrow, are applauding the decision and calling for the removal of the curfew.
