By BBN Staff: The United Democratic Party has issued a statement distancing itself from comments made over social media supporting a recent announcement by the Minister of Health and Wellness statement regarding the requirement for persons to be vaccinated to enter public buildings including government offices.
Vice Party Chairman Alberto August issued a public notice explaining that thus far, only individuals within the party have made statements regarding the matter.
“…the United Democratic Party is yet to meet, to formulate the Party’s official position on this matter which has far-reaching effects on the Belizean people. The individual statements on the part of Party officials must therefore be seen as such and NOT as the official position of the United Democratic Party. Alberto August Vice Chairman United Democratic Party,” August stressed.
Notably, Mesopotamia Area Representative and Leader of the Opposition Moses “Shyne” Barrow, issued a statement this morning supporting the move to mandate vaccinations or negative COVID tests, stressing that doing so would remove the need for the curfew currently in place. While Barrow enjoys the role of Leader of the Opposition within parliament, outside parliament, the leader of the UDP is Patrick Faber.
