By Aaron Humes: Leader of the Opposition Moses “Shyne” Barrow has told Belizeans in his St. George’s Caye Day message that the lessons of 1798 are instructional in our present challenges.
As “improbable (and) glorious” as 1798 was, we continued to battle then, and so we must continue to battle now against the scourge of COVID-19, “waging war on our economy, our mental and physical health”.
Barrow exhorts, “As we are halfway through our second year under COVID-19 siege, let this year’s celebrations be again about reflection of self and preparation for economic recovery. We cannot march and sing but we can sit and think about our blessings and challenges, think about getting vaccinated, think about the future of our Nation and what we can do to make our individual contribution to build a better Belize!”
He adds, “We will build back our economy stronger, we will eat healthier to strengthen our immune systems, we will think positive, wholesome thoughts to preserve our mental health and we will make the best of our virtual classrooms to continue to mold the minds of our future leaders”.
Barrow is expected to give remarks at Independence Day ceremonies in Belmopan on September 21.
