By Aaron Humes: Tenth Night brought sudden tragedy for four families in a yard at the corner of Sibun and Nargusta Streets after their homes were destroyed by fire.
Upon responding around 6:32 Friday evening, police found one house being an unpainted, wooden house elevated about eight feet from the ground with zinc roof measuring about 30 by 24 feet, two wooden bungalow houses measuring about 12 by 10 feet and one wooden bungalow house measuring about 20 by 12 feet all on fire.
The elevated wooden house is occupied by Cedric Neal, 52, Security Guard/Landlord of corner Ebony and Nargusta Streets. The other houses were occupied by his tenants.
According to tenant Michael Martinez, he was inside his house located at the back of the said yard, watching television along with his wife when his television cut off. Upon making checks outside he saw the interior of the house located in the southwest corner of the yard engulfed in flames.
Martinez said he tried to extinguish the fire with a bucket of water; however, the fire got out of control and he decided to call 911 for assistance.
The houses were not insured and the estimated cost of damages are yet to be ascertained. No one was injured.
Police and Fire Department investigations continue.
