By BBN Staff: A Belize City man and his nephew, who spent the September 10th weekend on lockdown, were brought before the Belize City Magistrate’s Court today to answer to firearm offences.

Thirty-eight-year-old Fidel De Jesus Guardado, and the minor appeared before Chief Magistrate, Sharon Fraser on charges of kept unlicensed firearm and kept unlicensed ammunition.

Police say that on Friday, September 10, 2021, they found a chrome, compact .9mm Lugar pistol with black pistol grip and 11 live .9mm rounds.

In court they pleaded not guilty to the charge, but due to the nature of the offence, bail could not be offered and they were remanded to the Belize Central Prison until November 10. The Chief Magistrate did tell them that they could apply for Supreme Court bail in 90 days.

In court, Guardado said that he was not even at home at the time police conducted the search, and his nephew was only dragged into the situation because he had gone to see his nephew at the time police detained him.
