By Aaron Humes: 109 new cases of COVID-19 were reported over the weekend in Belize City alone according to the Ministry of Health and Wellness.
Each reporting area saw multiple cases especially in the urban municipalities.
Corozal Town reported five cases; Orange Walk Town, 17; San Pedro Town, six; Belmopan and suburbs, 18; Benque Viejo, 17; San Ignacio and Santa Elena Town, 27 combined; Dangriga Town, seven; and Punta Gorda Town, five.
Villages too numerous to mention also reported cases, some close to these town and city centers.
The Ministry has characterized elsewhere the nature of cases in the Old Capital as “community spread” but has hesitated to initiate lockdown to avoid economic malaise.
