CDC ‘red-lists’ Belize for high COVID infections

By BBN Staff: The United States Center for Disease Control (CDC) has placed Belize on a red-list for “very high” levels of COVID-19 infection.

Given the designation, the CDC is encouraging travelers to avoid coming to Belize. Those that must travel to Belize are urged to be fully vaccinated before doing so.

“Because of the current situation in Belize, even fully vaccinated travelers may be at risk for getting and spreading COVID-19 variants,” the CDC added.

The latest data from the Ministry of Health and Wellness, produced on September 9, put the national total for infections at 17,405 and showed that there were 1,359 active cases in country.

An update on the national COVID-19 situation is expected to be published this afternoon to reflect the data from September 10-13.
