COVID-19 closes Supreme Court, General Registry

Posted: Monday, September 13, 2021. 4:42 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: Due to a rise of COVID-19 cases, the Belize City Supreme Court and General Registry is closed to all but urgent applications for the remainder of this week.

An official statement confirms four employees tested positive for COVID-19, with three in isolation.

The release emphasizes that there has been no careless contact behind this outbreak, with online filing procedures and established protocol limiting employee interaction with the public.

Nonetheless, all of Treasury Lane and Regent Street will be sanitized with a skeleton staff kept on for urgent applications.

Applications for bail will be heard remotely.

Queries are to be forwarded to [email protected].

The Judiciary and Magistracy have been hit by repeated outbreaks of COVID-19 among staff, necessitating occasional shutdowns since March of 2020.
