By Aaron Humes: Leroy Sherrier Lewis, 76, died after illness Monday night according to Costa Rican sports sources.
He is perhaps best known in Belize as the architect of the Belize National Football Team’s best international performance – a fourth-place finish in the Central American Cup and our only qualification, subsequently, to date, to the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2013.
Today the Football Federation of Belize (FFB) issued a statement saying it “joins the football community in mourning the death of Coach Leroy Sherrier Lewis. Coach Sherrier, also known as ‘Profe’ touched the lives of many football players…”
It also noted his coaching of the Belmopan Bandits for the Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League.
The Federation added, “Coach Sherrier will always be remembered for the passion he demonstrated for the sport and for the impact he had on the lives of those he touched. Forever a Jaguar. May he RIP.”
