Divine Destiny Therapist challenges Belizeans to find healing by changing their perception of getting help

Posted: Wednesday, September 15, 2021. 9:31 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Mental Health Professionals in Belize have agreed that one of the greatest hindrances to members of the public accessing counseling services is the stigma associated with seeing a counselor. Divine Destiny Therapist is challenging Belizeans to stop hindering their own healing and growth by letting go of that perception.

The company specializes in helping people address and overcome a number of issues including stress, depression, anxiety, grief, childhood traumatic experiences, and recovery from addiction. The company also offers conflict resolution therapy, faith-based Christian Counseling, Couples Counseling, and Family Counseling.

Cornelius Matthews, founder, and CEO of Divine Destiny Therapist, who has over 15 years helping people seek wholistic healing, said that throughout his career he has seen that those who change their thinking about accessing counseling services, ultimately find themselves on the path to overcoming long-standing issues in their lives.

“People don’t want to do it because they say, ‘no that means I crazy’ but they don’t realize what that perception is doing to them,” Matthews said.

He went on to say that, oftentimes, wrong perceptions about the nature of interpersonal relationships, friendships and even marriages are what lead to a myriad of issues that could have been avoided if they were only looked at through the proper lens.

“People don’t know how to deal with relationships, friendships, we just see it as a friend I should tell you nice things. We approach the negative as the worst when we could let the negative teach us how to deal with the issues,” Matthews added.
