By Aaron Humes: Governor-General Froyla Tzalam has been written to by UDP parliamentarians to approve the appointment of Patrick Faber as Leader of the Opposition.
A leaked letter informs the head of state that Faber, also the leader of the United Democratic Party, has regained the support of the Member for Albert Division Tracey Taegar-Panton and Corozal North Hugo Patt. All three signed the letter in question which is dated Monday, September 13.
If the appointment is made, it reunites the offices severed in June when Patt backed Barrow over Faber ahead of the party recall convention. A promised briefing by the party has yet to materialize.
It also means Faber is in position to give the Leader of the Opposition’s official remarks on Independence Day Tuesday in Belmopan.
We continue to follow this story.
This means he outflanks incumbent Moses “Shyne” Barrow and his aunt Denise Barrow with a majority under section 47 of the Constitution.
