Woman seeks advice on how to register for nationality, turns to social media

Posted: Wednesday, September 15, 2021. 10:22 am CST.

By Benjamin Flowers: Today, the Facebook page Ladyville Highlights presented the plight of a woman who says she needs advice from the public on how to register for her nationality.

The unnamed woman says that she is a Belizean but both her parents, now deceased, did not register her at birth. The woman went on to say that she is the single mother of a four-year-old child and that her parents’ failure to register her has prohibited her from getting a Social Security card and has thus kept her from being gainfully employed.

She notes that she has had this problem for 20 years and is desperately in need of guidance. Breaking Belize News tried contacting the Vital Statistics Unit, but as has been a plaguing issue for several administrations, any business with Vital Stats is tedious and often frustrating.
