By Aaron Humes: At this hour Patrick Faber, area representative for Collet, has been sworn in as Leader of the Opposition in the House of Representatives while continuing to be Leader of the United Democratic Party.
Faber took the oath for the second time before Governor-general Froyla Tzalam at Belize House, Belmopan, joined by family and friends.
Faber was previously sworn in from November 2020 to June 2021 when he was ousted by fellow parliamentarians led by Moses “Shyne” Barrow of Mesopotamia. The proximate cause was a tirade caught on camera at a private residence against the mother of his youngest child but soon Party grandees came forward accusing him of failing to keep the party together.
But Faber survived a first of its kind recall convention in June and has now convinced Albert’s Tracey Taegar-Panton and Corozal North’s Hugo Patt to back him again after seeking therapy for his anger management issues.
Now he has a second chance to lead the UDP back to success, starting with setting out his agenda on Independence Day in Belmopan.
