Exceptions to new regulations not recommended by Task Force; no lockdown will be proposed

By Aaron Humes: Many have questioned whether there was a special favor offered to the tourist hubs of San Pedro Town, Caye Caulker, Placencia, and Hopkins to earn exceptions on the curfew and operation of restaurants.

While it was not directly recommended by the Medical Task Force, several members said today that they recognized the importance of economic recovery alongside health.

The team will monitor activities in these areas. It helps that Belize continues to demand a negative test before entering Belize as well as vaccination and so persons mingling there are somewhat protected.

And depending on how things go, measures may be extended but there will not be any suggestion of a lockdown as that is not recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) because of the economic injury it creates.

One way to avoid that is to hold fast to the protocol and be careful out there.
