By Benjamin Flowers: Belize has had its fair share of mentions in international news over the years, oftentimes for negative reasons, but the latest report from CBS19 captures a heartwarming tale of a church congregation that gave a Belizean the gift of education.
The news outlet reports that the Crozet United Methodist Church (CUMC) conducted a mission trip to an undisclosed location Belize heard the story of a young woman named Dominga, who wished to go to high school.
Through collaboration with an NGO called Pathlight International, which focuses on sourcing funding to assist young Belizeans with going to school, the CUMC managed to put Dominga through high school, and junior college.
“They were just moved and invigorated by the story, and their desire to immediately respond with that compassionate response, was just ramified here into this full-blown effort to make sure she could have this opportunity and fulfill her dreams,” said Sarah Wastella, the pastor of CUMC.
Dominga is now working as a rural Development Officer for the Government of Belize and intends to go on to do her bachelor’s degree.
