By Benjamin Flowers: The number of people with active COVID-19 infections continues to rise, exceeding 1,600 as of today.

The Ministry of Health and Wellness (MOHW) reported today that 1,603 Belizeans are actively infected with COVID-19.

Active cases were split between 873 females and 730 males.

Health authorities also have an additional 237 cases under investigation.

Meanwhile, there are now 26 patients hospitalized due to the virus, eight of whom are receiving critical care in an intensive care unit.

The MOHW also reported that 109 new patients have recovered from the infection, bringing the national total for recoveries up to 16,518.

The national recovery rate was adjusted to 89.1.
