Ex-Kaibil in Dos Erres massacre tossed by Immigration Minister’s order

Posted: Friday, September 17, 2021. 1:44 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration Senator Eamon Courtenay, acting on information from Police, has ordered 68-year-old Alfonso Bulux Vicente expelled and deported from Belize, never to return.

Bulux Vicente is wanted in Guatemala in connection with an incident that occurred in December 1982 in the village of Dos Erres, Guatemala, in which 250 villagers were massacred at the hands of the Guatemalan Kaibiles.

A Government statement says Bulux Vicente applied to the Ministry of Immigration for permanent residence, and in August 2021, the ministry requested the Belize Police Department to conduct a security clearance on Bulux Vicente. As a result of routine checks, an INTERPOL Red Notice was discovered relating to Bulux Vicente. Guatemalan counterparts confirmed to the Belize Police Department that Bulux Vicente was wanted for murder. Bulux Vicente was detained by the police and remains in custody.

As a result of the Expulsion Order, Bulux Vicente will now be escorted to the Belize – Guatemala border and handed over to Guatemalan authorities. No matter the outcome of his legal proceedings (he denies wrongdoing) he cannot ever knowingly enter Belize again.

Guatemala continues to search for others believed involved in the atrocity.
