Minister of Health says door-to-door vaccine campaign begins next week

Posted: Friday, September 17, 2021. 12:34 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: Minister of Health and Wellness, Michel Chebat, disagrees that the vaccination campaign has been a failure, with Belizeans feeling coerced and scared into getting the jab.

But he does agree that not enough has been done to reach out to Belizeans to explain the situation and convince them the way they convinced Belizeans to vote in large majority last November.

And for this reason, the Ministry is launching a door-to-door campaign starting in Southside Belize City, the epicenter of the current wave, with area representatives joining Ministry personnel.

Approximately 40 percent of Belizeans have at least one dose and less than half of that are fully vaccinated, though the numbers are going up as children 12 to 17 are lining up for the jab.

We’ll have more later, including the Minister’s advice to those with established medical conditions that may affect whether they can take the vaccines now available.
