By Benjamin Flowers: Tonight the Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams, warned that the event “Worldwide Rally for Freedom, Belize City” being promoted on Facebook is illegal under the current COVID-19 regulations.

The event is planned to emphasize participants’ refusal of the upcoming vaccine regulations recently announced by Minister of Health and Wellness, Michel Chebat.

“The Belize Police Department takes note of this impending rally scheduled for Belize City tomorrow morning and warn the general public that due to the current Covid19 regulations this rally will not be allowed. We therefore ask the general public not to join or partake in this illegal event,” Williams said. “We ask for your full cooperation in this regard. May we continue to do what we can collectively to reduce the spread of the Covid19 virus within our communities.”

On September 9, Chebat announced that vaccination cards or negative COVID-19 tests will be required to enter all public places, privately owned buildings and even to utilize public transportation. (See full story here).

The move has been met with mixed reviews, with some supporting it while others have gone as far as to prepare a legal battle against the decision.
