By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Embassy of Mexico issued an open invitation for a conversation with renowned Mexican artist Sebastián, who made Independence Arches Monument in Belmopan.
The conversation will be featured on all social media outlets on Monday, September 20, at 6 p.m. said the Mexico Embassy.
“To celebrate the Independence of Belize, the Mexican Sculptor, Sebastián, made a monumental piece that the Government of Mexico donated to the people of Belize,” said the Mexico Embassy in a press release.
“The artist addresses a message of approval for the 40 years of diplomatic relations between Mexico and Belize and talks about how he conceived the piece formed by a set of arches and celebrates the Independence of Belize,” said the Embassy of Mexico release.
Sebastián, whose real name is Enrique Carbajal González, was born in Chihuahua, Mexico in 1947.
He is a Mexican sculptor whose works in steel and/or concrete can be found in many cities around the world including Kingston, Buenos Aires, Havana, Rio de Janeiro, Denver, plus a number of cities in the United States, Japan, and his native Mexico.
His most famous sculpture is the “Caballito” which is located in downtown Mexico City.
He has done work in ceramic and plastics as well.
Sebastián’s works have been exhibited in a number of countries including Mexico, Germany, Belgium, Brazil, Colombia, Spain, the Netherlands, England, Portugal, Italy, Canada, the United States, France, Japan, and Venezuela.
