By Aaron Humes: Commissioner of Police Chester Williams issued some clarifications to the new regulations now in effect.
Workers at restaurants situated in hotels outside the exempted zones (San Pedro, Caye Caulker, Placencia, and Hopkins) will be allowed to stay on and work up to 9 p.m. only for guests of the hotel, and consequently, restaurants in those hotels may stay open up to 9 p.m. only for hotel guests.
For no-movement Sundays, “essential service” workers such as pharmacists, medical workers, and so on who are working on that day will be allowed to pass.
Traveling to and from the airport is permitted only to pick up guests for hotels, or to pick up family members coming in. Be sure to bring along a copy of their travel itinerary or other official information to justify your movement. (The press is likewise unimpeded on these days should a crime or major event occur that needs our presence.)
Finally, the Commissioner acknowledged that his men and women are equally as fatigued at this point and find it tough to face the public criticism of their enforcement methods – but enforcement there must be.
