By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The United States plans to permit air travelers from certain countries it had barred from entering since 2020 as of early November.
White House COVID-19 response coordinator, Jeff Zients said on Monday that the US will allow entry to citizens of China, India, Great Britain, and several other European countries once they are fully vaccinated, Reuters reported.
According to the Reuters report the United States currently does not allow entry to foreigners who have, in the 14 days prior to travelling to the United States, visited China, India, South Africa, Brazil, Ireland, and the 26 Schengen countries in Europe.
Bloomberg reported that travelers will have to provide proof of being fully vaccinated before they are allowed to board planes. The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), however, will decide what ‘fully vaccinated’ means.
In Belize, for example, a person who has two AstraZeneca vaccines is fully vaccinated, but the US CDC has not given AstraZeneca emergency use permission, so by their standards that person does not qualify as fully vaccinated under their definition.
