By Aaron Humes: Mayor of Belmopan, Sharon Palacio, noted that Belize has been tested and tried, sometimes stumbled, sometimes fallen, but always risen.
That resilience has served us well over 40 years and serves us now as we soldier through the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Freedom is the opportunity to be what it never thought it would be,” she noted.
Mayor Palacio also touched on other critical issues: climate change, announcing that Belmopan has joined other capital cities of the Americas to lead that fight and will be hosting a first meeting next August; and education, focusing especially on overlooked young males, who will be served by a program termed Oscar Mira-Zachariah Palacios Scholarship Fund for 50 recipients.
Belmopan welcomes all to see its culture, food and sights and takes its place as the brightest of Belize’s jewels, she said.
