Minister of Tourism: ‘We must maintain Belize’s image as a safe destination’

Posted: Wednesday, September 22, 2021. 12:28 pm CST.

By Benjamin Flowers: Ahead of the 2021 celebration of World Tourism Day (WTD), celebrated annually on September 27, Minister of Tourism and Diaspora Relations Anthony Mahler released his WTD message, calling on Belizeans to do their part in making sure Belize remains an attractive destination.

Mahler notes that, in light of the difficulties brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, Belize’s international image as a safe destination will play a key role in ensuring the recovery of the industry which was brought to a complete shutdown last year due to the pandemic.

“In order to continue on the path of growth and development, we must maintain Belize’s image as a safe tourism destination backed by stringent health and safety protocols…” Mahler said. “The recovery of our industry is dependent on all of us.”

Mahler said that all Belizeans must do their individual parts to assist the greater mission which includes getting vaccinated, social distancing, regular hand washing, and adhering to all other protocols established by health authorities.

He stressed that the Ministry of Tourism will continue to market Belize internationally in new creative ways in the coming months in an effort to bring more visitors and revitalize the industry. He called for Belize to move forward with a spirit of innovation, inclusivity, and cooperation, to ensure the industry’s survival.
