By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise (MAFSE) and the Belize Credit Union League (BCUL) on September 20 signed a Technical Partnership Agreement (TPA) to provide financing for farmers and producers.
The TPA is expected “to strengthen the technical support to beneficiary farmers, producers, and processors in the agriculture, aquaculture, and livestock sectors across all districts of Belize,” said a statement by the Government of Belize Press Office.
The agreement was signed on September 20 by Servulo Baeza, Ministry of Agriculture Chief Executive Officer, Minister Jose Abelardo Mai, and BCUL Program Coordinator Lindburgh Smith said a MAFSE Facebook post.
MAFSE said the TPA includes information and training exchanges between the two institutions.
MAFSE also said the agreement is a step forward in the Plan Belize 11-point Agriculture Policy that looks for affordable financing for farmers.
“The TPA is part of the EcoMicro Adaptation Program, funded by the Inter-American Development Bank Lab (IDB Lab), and Global Affairs Canada (GAC), and aims to finance loans, through the Belize Credit Union League (BCUL) to facilitate the adaptation of technologies and green methodologies that will build climate resilience and improve overall productivity for the agriculture, aquaculture, livestock sectors,” said the release.
On September 20, MAFSE signed a similar TPA with the Development Finance Corporation (DFC) to provide financing for farmers and enterprises.
