Chandra Nisbet Cansino named new CEO of Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital Authority

By Aaron Humes: This evening Breaking Belize News confirmed that Chandra Nisbet Cansino will become CEO of the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital Authority effective next week.

While no official announcement has yet been made, BBN understands Cansino has resigned from the Social Security Board as its General Manager of Corporate and Customer Relations Services.

Nisbet Cansino, a registered nurse, was previously one of two final candidates in a round of interviews a few weeks ago. The other candidate, Dr. Michael Tewes, was the initial selection but stepped down before assuming office due to mounting internal and public opposition.

Reports also suggest that members of the KHMH board perceived to be close to Minister Michel Chebat would be removed and that at least one of the posts would be offered to recent COVID survivor and advocate Dr. Fernando Cuellar.

The hospital is marking its 26th anniversary amid mounting staff, equipment, and spacing constraints, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic which has kept its beds full for months. An official statement is expected to come next week. BBN would also like to extend congratulations to Cansino and look forward to her leadership in her new role.
