Active COVID-19 cases remain over 1,900 at the start of the new week

By Benjamin Flowers: There are over 1,900 people in Belize who are currently infected with COVID-19.

The Ministry of Health and Wellness reports that the total number of active cases as of today, September 27, 2021, stands at 1,947.

Authorities have another 930 suspected cases under investigation which could possibly push the number of active cases above 2,000.

The number of patients in the hospital due to the virus continues to push health facilities across the country to the brink of collapse, with 44 patients hospitalized, 12 of whom are receiving critical care in an intensive care unit (ICU).

The MOHW also reported that 321 new patients have recovered from their infection, bringing the national total for recoveries up to 17,568.

The national recovery rate was adjusted to 88.1.
