By Aaron Humes: The United Democratic Party may be down, said its second Deputy Leader Beverly Williams, but by no means is it out.
And the party drew on its history of boom and bust, as party Chairman Michael Peyrefitte said its current troubles are nowhere close to the rifts of the 1970s and 80s under Philip Goldson, Dean Lindo, Manuel Esquivel, and others, or the NABR split in the 1990s, or even the more recent turmoil in the first year of Dean Barrow’s ascendancy.
But there were many good times too – the toppling of the blue in 1984 on an expanded map, the comeback in 1993 to win the most seats despite having fewer votes, the unprecedented 12 years run from 2008 to 2020.
Faber is due to present the keynote address shortly.
