Westline announces no more “fisherman’s masks” allowed for passengers

Posted: Tuesday, September 28, 2021. 4:30 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: Westline Bus Company has announced that with effect from today, no passengers will be sold tickets for or allowed to board any bus run wearing what is known as a “fisherman’s/gaiter mask.”

A conductor was robbed earlier today when the bus stopped in Hattieville to pick up would-be passengers.

As described, these types of masks completely cover the face from below the eyes to the neck. Police have previously decried the use of these types of masks as common to those out committing crime rather than law-abiding citizens.

The company emphasized in a social media post, “For EVERYONE’S SAFETY and the PREVENTION of any more criminal related activities, IF YOU ARE WEARING THESE TYPES OF FACE COVER ALLS, YOU WILL NOT BE PICKED UP OR PERMITTED ON BOARD. Please wear the normal surgical, cloth or KN90/95 masks that only cover your nose and mouth. THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING & COOPERATION.”

Police continue to investigate the robbery.
